July 2017 Playlist

By Myth Reid - July 26, 2017

I am a big music lover. There was a point in my puberty years where I'd stay up late, listen to the radio, and list down the titles of the songs that come on, along with the specific time they played. Other than poetry, music was what helped me stay sane. Not much has changed, really. It still is helping me keep my sanity when the going gets tough. I have a playlist on Spotify, on Youtube, and even on my phone's default MP3 player, arranged according to how a particular track makes me feel. This blog even used to have a background music 'coz I was emo like that. (LOL.)

I thought of posting about my recent musical discoveries, or any song that speaks about the current state of my life and my being. Below are some of the tracks I'm quite fixated to, of late. They can be my life's theme songs, tbh.

Bored - Billie Eilish

♫ I just want to love for free.

First heard this song on the Netflix Series, 13 Reasons Why. Given that I loved the series so much, this track is really special. The intro alone sends me into a psychedelic state.

Sign of the Times - Harry Styles

♫ Why are we always stuck and running from the bullets?

It's the first song I heard when I got back from my week-long vacation, and the song felt as if inviting me to get away again. God knows that's what I wanna do forever.

Current Location - Lany

♫ Don't make me look stupid
for waiting just to lose ya.

It was a lonely afternoon when I discovered this. It was salutary. No, is salutary. Each time I listen to the song, I remember my friend, Peter, who has now moved to London to work. Another person who has been living in Iloilo slides into my thoughts each time. His current location? DAVAO CITY. It's like the answer to the song's prayer. But the person is ignoring my messages. So, deym, the feels are too much.

yea, babe, no way - LANY

♫ We should talk about love again.

This is my go-to song when I have frazzled nerves that need soothing. The beat strums my heartstrings in such a way that I suddenly fall in a state in a reverie. Goodbye, frazzled nerves! Hello, daydream! If there's what they call a calm after a storm, this is my order after the disaster.

Two Less Lonely People in the World - KZ Tandingan

♫ Then you smiled and I reached out to you.
I could tell you were lonely, too.

KZ Tandingan always does this to a song—make it sound sooo good that it becomes heartbreaking. If you've watched the RomCom flick, Kita Kita—that's practically creating all the buzz everywhere—you can't help but get addicted to the song. This movie, and the song were both so tastefully done, it's impossible to get over them.

That's it, for now. What about you? Comment your current eargasm.
